More Things to Do In Prince Frederick and Surrounding Area

There are so many things to do in this area, it is hard to just keep it down to just a few. But this will be fun because they are diverse and interesting!

The Spider Hill Farm

3915 Hallowing Point Rd, Prince Frederick, MD 20678  410.610.0094

This local farm is known around the area for its amazing ice cream. Spider Hill is also a working farm with corn, grain, and tobacco. They have a farm stand that sells locally sourced goods like produce, milk, meat, eggs, cheese, and even gift items. All this and an Agricultural Education Center (Calvert educational facility) here as well. This is a terrific stop with the family – especially when they have seasonal events.

Calvert Cliffs State Park

10540 H.G. Trueman Rd, Lusby, MD 20657  443.975.4360

This state park covers 24 miles of the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County. These cliffs now show the remains of prehistoric life, including sharks, seabirds the size of small airplanes and whales. Fossils of shark teeth and more can be found and tools to help you are there. However, depending on how serious you are about finding fossils, some other resources you may want to try are:

Calvert Cliffs is open from sunrise to sunset, and there is a fee to enter. There are 13 miles of hiking trails and fishing available as well.

Everything from catching rockfish to perch and trout – whatever is in the Bay, these experienced watermen will be helpful for your fishing expedition. All those fish, those fossils, maybe you want to see some sea lions!

Calvert Marine Museum and Drum Point Lighthouse

14275 Solomons Island Rd S, Solomons, MD 20688  410.326.2042

I don’t think I could say enough good things about this museum. They have fish and turtles, they have fossils, they have all sorts of exhibits to show you from everything in the Chesapeake Bay and Patuxent River – and one of the most fun things is the Drum Point Lighthouse. Go up into a lighthouse that people lived in and see the history of the Bay right in front of you. The view is great and the people helpful. Fees are listed on the website.
